The Junior League of Miami 2016 Showhouse at The Kampong was a huge success and a lot of fun. The Junior League of Miami 2016 Showhouse is an event that showcases the work of a select group of renowned interior designers, architects and artists, presenting their talents to thousands of people. Sheryl Bleustein was given the honor of designing the bedroom of the Sausage Tree Cottage within The Kampong, as seen in the image above.
Sheryl Bleustein is an accomplished, award-winning interior designer. Having completed projects for many high-profile celebrities, sport figures and executives worldwide, she was a perfect fit for the Junior League of Miami 2016 Showhouse at the Kampong. Sheryl Bleustein is a preferred designer at Design Center of the Americas and an ASID member.
The Kampong is a botanical garden compound spanning approximately 10 acres within the Coconut Grove neighborhood of Miami, Florida. It has a rich history. It was the home of the famed Dr. David Fairchild, who introduced many exotic species of plants to the United States from Southeast Asia which would eventually become commonplace, such as mangos, pistachios, soybeans, bamboos, among many others—around 30,000 in all. Dr. Fairchild enjoyed the Kampong with his wife Marian Bell, daughter of Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the world’s first telephone.
When designing the bedroom of the Sausage Tree Cottage, Sheryl Bleustein included a palette of cool tones to create a soothing atmosphere. The bedroom utilizes varying shades of white, blue and gray, calming the mind and making the space roomier. Every piece of furniture was carefully chosen and positioned to contribute to a cohesive whole. The shapes, textures and colors used are complementary to one another.
All proceeds from the Junior League of Miami 2016 Showhouse go directly to the Junior League of Miami’s community projects involving helping women and children in Miami, as well as leadership training for its 1,000 members. The Junior League of Miami has been dedicated to this cause for the past 90 years.
It was an honor and a pleasure to take part in this wonderful event!
