You stroll into a house and feel like there is something very off. It’s either too bright or too dark or just not welcoming. Lighting is one aspect of interior design that can make or break the ambiance of your home. So, it’s reasonable to say that lighting is the unsung hero of interior design. Choosing the right kind of lighting can make your room not just aesthetically pleasing but also functional. A house that has a proper lighting set up doesn’t only look good but also saves energy. Since light plays a vital role in lifting the mood, today let’s discuss different types of lighting and how they can impact a space’s atmosphere and functionality.
The first kind of lighting is Ambient lighting. This type of lighting is the base, which sets up the mood and tone of the room. Ambient lighting brightens up space and is usually present in all rooms of the house. It is often referred to as general lighting. The best example of ambient lighting is the overhead lights or the chandelier. Ambient lighting assists the primary lighting source in not just improving the functionality of space but also in enhancing the aesthetics.
The second type of lighting is Accent lighting. Accent lighting directs attention to a particular area or feature of the room that you want to highlight. Use accent lighting to bring into attention artwork or architecture details in the room. It’s the least bright of the three types, but it is responsible for enhancing your interior design element. Examples of it are highlighting artwork or painting with picture lights.
The third type and the most functional of all is Task Lighting. This type of lighting is perfect for a designated work area. Examples of Task lighting include desk lamps or under-cabinet lighting in the kitchen or study. Task lights are usually bright and more energy-efficient, so you don’t have to keep all your other lights on while you work. Task lighting helps you create a more concentrated and focused environment.
Penultimately, Natural lighting- one that’s not installed- is one of the best forms of lighting that a homeowner can have. Natural light can come from various sources, such as skylights, windows, and doors. One of the benefits of Natural lighting is that it makes your home feel spacious, and it’s excellent for your health and well-being.
