So much of a kitchen’s style comes from its cabinet doors. There are many options when it comes to cabinet doors, and two of the most popular choices are shaker cabinet doors and slab cabinet doors. Which is right for you?
Shaker cabinet doors are more popular and versatile than slab cabinet doors. Shaker cabinet doors take their name from a community known as the Shakers. The Shakers formed in the 18th century and were renowned carpenters, known for their handcrafted, high-quality furniture. Despite having originated over 200 years ago, shaker cabinet doors have stood the test of time and are a perfect complement to modern spaces, as well as traditional.
Shaker cabinet doors are characterized by their recessed panels, as well as their stile-and-rail construction—meaning the horizontal “rails” and vertical “stiles” fit together to form a frame with 90-degree angles.
Shaker cabinet doors are known for their versatility, and they go well with many different kitchen styles.
Slab cabinet doors are more specific in their design, taking a sleek approach that complements both modern spaces and European-inspired spaces nicely.
Each cabinet door is a flat panel consisting of a single piece of building material, usually wood that is either stained or painted, and has no ornamentation or beveling. Like shaker cabinet doors, slab cabinet doors are timeless. Some of the benefits of slab cabinet doors are that they are easy to keep clean due to their lack of ornamentation, they go particularly well with large spaces, and there are also many affordable options for slab cabinet doors.
Both shaker and slab cabinet doors are resistant to trends and look stunning in a wide variety of different kitchen styles.
